The 30th White Horse Half Marathon went ahead as scheduled on Sunday and the runners enjoyed fine, albeit cool, weather conditions - a blessing for the organisers after last year's unseasonally hot temperatures.
This year saw a fine race unfold at the front of the field with the lead changing hands on a number occasions. Eventually Paul Fernandez (Abingdon Amblers AC) prevailed to record his second victory in 3 years. The leading lady home was Liz Hartney, who recorded an Open L45 category coure record in the process.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support and efforts in helping to make this year's race another great success, in particular, the officials, recorders, St. John Ambulance, and all of the marshals and helpers without whom this event could not take place.
In addition, we would also like to thank Sainsbury's (Wantage) for their generous donation of the water provided for the benefit of the runners at the finish.
As well as helping to fund the activities of our club, the 2012 race was run in support of the English Federation of Disability Sport, a national charity dedicated to developing opportunies and building awareness for disabled people in sport.
A full report of this year's race is available to view here which includes a full breakdown of the results and category prize winners.
The next White Horse Half Marathon will take place at 10:00am on Sunday, 7th April 2013 in Grove, Oxfordshire. Entry forms will be available here from September 2012. Please note that this race closed at the beginning of December last year and on average is closing 3 weeks earlier each year. So please make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment.
Next year the race will be supporting The 14 Club for people with learning difficulties at Fitzwaryn School in Wantage.
We are always on the lookout for lots of volunteers to help with the marshalling and other duties at this race. No experience is required. All offers of help will be gratefully accepted! Again, please contact the Race Director.
Once again we are indebted to our sponsors for their valuable support.
